OJUKWU ASSURED OIL COMPANIES OF PROTECTION
Late Colonel Chukwu Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu,then militarygovernor of the Eastern region assured captains of industries, especially oil companies of the safetyof their business.
In a meeting with Chief Executives of the companies at Enugu, he reiterated his administration’s determination to ensure that peace prevails and does not wish for secession.
In view of this, he told his audience that the police unit in their areas of operations had been reinforced. And that more troops would be sent to the Port Harcourt area.
He recalled the various incidents, which had taken place in the country during the past seven months and said, ”The people of the East have all along demonstrated restraint and discipline” adding that the East is anxious to ensure peace in the country as she has continued to make concessions in the interest of peace and unity.
