Disputed property transferred to varsity by military govt —UNIBEN
Authorities of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, have said that the disputed property destroyed by Edo State Government was transferred to it by the military government.
Speaking through its counsel, Mr Hannibal Uwaifo, UNIBEN said that the disputed buildings were transferred to it by the military government, with the authority of the old Bendel State administrator, Col. George Innih.
He added that the university was at the Appeal Court over the matter, as it had, since December, some days after the judgment, appealed against same and had also prayed the appellate court to stay the execution of the judgment.
Uwaifo clarified that the buildings include the Ugbowo Campus, the Ekenwan Road Campus, Staff Quarters and Club allocated to the University at GRA, and the Arts Theatre, Airport Road.
It will be recalled that Edo State Government demolished some of the houses occupied by some university staff, but the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Kassim Afegbua, said the government’s action was in line with the rule of law.
